Dance Class Materials needed for Dance 1, 2 and 3

Dance Class Attire
Proper St. Lucy's Dance attire includes the following:

• 1 pair of black shorts with St. Lucy's Dance logo
• 1 pair of black pants with St. Lucy's Dance logo
• 1 navy blue leotard with St. Lucy's Dance logo
• 1 pair of black jazz shoes
• 1 t-shirt with St. Lucy's Dance logo

All items contain the St. Lucy's Dance Logo.  There are no substitutions for the St. Lucy's Dance Class attire.  Students are required to have at least one of each dance item for class.  Additional attire may be purchased 




Course Materials
Pens, highlighter, folder, paper, one (new) two inch binder to keep writing assignments, vocabulary terms, reflections, critiques, evaluations, time lines, etc.

April is "Celebrate Your Body" Month

Dance 1 Students are taking these weeks to reflect on their gifts, growing talents and overall health as an individual this month.  Dancers know how helpful- and harsh- mirrors can be in this field of art, so St. Lucy's Dancers are taking action to change that.

We dance to communicate our thoughts and feelings, but mostly to celebrate our existence.  Who needs a mirror to tell you how beautiful of a dancer you really are?  Be your own kind of beautiful.


By sharing inspirational quotes, writing letters and poems to the class, creating a "body beautiful" collage and responding to a live poetry performance on body image, our dancers are remembering the importance of this performing art.

"Look at Me" Written Reflection

"Look at me" is spoken word performance piece commissioned by Jessica Starr for MUSE Dance Company. The poem was written and performed by Azure Antoinette with Choreography by Jessica Starr. The Choreography is performed by members of MUSE Dance Company. "Look at Me" was performed in October 2010 in Tuscon Arizona at the University of Arizona Jazz Showcase. "Look at Me" received raucous applause and rave reviews.

ASSIGNMENT: Dance 1 Students are to write or type a one paragraph response to this video.  Reflections will be discussed as a class and taped on the class mirrors.  Due Tuesday, April 15.

Dance Elective Survey

DANCE 1 and 2 STUDENTS:
St. Lucy's currently offer two elective courses for dance education. Currently, the introductory level Dance 1 course is offered for two semesters with an option of a more advanced level Dance 2 for one semester. The school is reviewing the opportunity to expand these courses and provided more electives in dance. Your response to this short, anonymous survey will provide the data needed to maintain or extend dance course.
